Some careers take many turns before finding the right fit. Temet Perez found his fit early. Twenty years after joining Considine & Considine fresh out of school, he became a Partner in October 2024.
His journey is marked by a love of problem-solving and a deep respect for the colleagues and clients he serves every day.
We recently sat down with Temet to look back on his path to becoming Partner and the perspective he brings to his new role.
Twenty Years of Serving Considine & Considine Clients
Temet has spent his entire accounting career at Considine & Considine. Before joining, he had been preparing for a different field altogether, planning to pursue sports business management before circumstances nudged him toward accounting. A former classmate helped point him to the firm at exactly the right moment.
What began as a straightforward referral quickly became a meaningful turning point. The timing aligned, the opportunity felt right, and Temet chose to take the step that ultimately shaped the next twenty years of his career.
That decision became the foundation of the decades that followed.
A Career Shaped Across Multiple Departments
Temet started in professional services, moved into audit for nearly ten years, then returned briefly to professional services before eventually transitioning into the real estate department. Each move expanded his skill set and helped him learn different sides of the firm.
He shared that real estate became the place where his strengths, interests, and workload aligned in a way that felt both engaging and sustainable. The transition was the right fit, and he is genuinely glad his path led him there.
Today his work centers on partnership taxation and complex real estate clients, especially syndicated partnerships with multiple investors.
Finding Fulfillment in Real Estate Taxation
For Temet, the appeal is the mix of variety, challenge, and seasonality. Real estate taxation offers analytical depth and opportunities to think creatively through complex structures. He also appreciates the rhythm of the work, which aligns well with his strengths and the type of problem-solving he enjoys most.
He enjoys that no two days look the same. The work spans development, construction, rental properties, and other specialized areas, giving him exposure to a wide range of clients and projects. This variety keeps the work engaging and allows him to approach each assignment with fresh perspective.
A New Partner’s Perspective
The transition to Partner felt natural. Temet explained that his day-to-day responsibilities did not shift dramatically, but his sense of representation did. He is more aware of the ways his actions reflect the firm as a whole.
“I understand that I now, even more than ever, represent the business, and I am part of the face of the business.”
Leading with Trust and Support
Temet leads with trust. He prefers to give his team space to learn through experience, stepping in when needed, but avoiding unnecessary micromanagement.
“I like to support them in figuring things out,” he said.
He also believes strongly in supporting people as they explore their own career paths. Whether someone stays at Considine & Considine for decades or discovers that another setting suits them better, Temet wants people to grow in ways that make them happy. Many who leave end up returning, something he sees as a sign of the firm’s culture and values.
Guidance for Emerging Professionals
Work-life balance matters, Temet said, and it is healthier than the culture he grew up in professionally. Still, he encourages younger staff to keep an eye on long-term growth rather than getting stuck in the present moment. Striving, effort, and consistency still matter.
“Just keep striving. Don’t try to worry as much about what’s happening right now,” he emphasized. He believes that people progress most when they pair effort with self-advocacy and confidence in their own value.
Shifts Shaping the Accounting Field
Temet has noticed a meaningful evolution in the profession, particularly in how firms support the well-being of their teams. There is a stronger emphasis today on balance, flexibility, and creating an environment where people can build long-term careers without sacrificing their health or personal lives. He views this shift as a positive and necessary progression, one that strengthens both the profession and the people who sustain it.
Temet also sees the rise of automation as a major force shaping the future of the field. He believes AI will reshape much of the workflow, freeing accountants to focus more on planning, advising, and personal relationships.
“I can imagine AI is going to play a very big part in the work that we do because more and more things are going to get automated.”
Even with these changes, he is optimistic about the firm’s ability to continue growing.
Life Beyond the Office
With three boys in multiple sports, Temet describes this season of life as busy and full. His evenings and weekends often revolve around lacrosse, baseball, soccer, martial arts, and club team commitments.
When he does have a spare moment, he gravitates toward puzzles, escape rooms, and anything that involves problem-solving. It is an interest that has followed him since childhood and one that connects naturally to his work.
A Steady Path and the Lessons That Endure
Temet’s career has followed a clear and consistent trajectory, shaped by commitment, curiosity, and a strong alignment with the work he enjoys. From the moment he began his career at Considine & Considine, he found a sense of purpose and belonging that has carried him through more than two decades with the firm.
Through the years, one lesson from his father has grounded him during busy seasons, leadership responsibilities, and the natural pressures of the work. “You’re going to mess up, you’re going to make mistakes, but it’s never as bad as you think it is.”
It is a reminder he continues to carry: stay steady, keep perspective, and move forward.
Special thanks to Temet Perez for sharing his story. We are grateful for his leadership, his integrity, and the steady presence he brings to our partner group and our firm.
