Celebrating Leadership: Marvin Harrison Named Partner

by Jul 10, 2025Uncategorized

In 2021, Marvin Harrison, CPA, was named a Partner at Considine & Considine.

Marvin has been a key part of our firm for over 30 years, having joined us in 1994. Known for his steady presence, deep client relationships, and thoughtful mentorship, Marvin has built a department that blends professional and business services with a focus on long-term client success.

His work spans real estate, professional practices, nonprofits, and more—and his impact is felt across the firm.

We recently sat down with Marvin to reflect on his journey, his leadership, and what’s next.

A Career Built at Considine & Considine

Some careers are built by moving around from firm to firm. Marvin Harrison built his by digging in—year after year, right here at Considine & Considine.

“I started in 1994 under Don Vonk in the professional services department,” Marvin recalled. “After three years there, I moved to the business tax department, passed the CPA exam, rotated through audit, and then returned to business tax—where I’ve been ever since.”

It was a different world back then. With just five or six partners and one location, the firm had a tight-knit feel. And though Considine & Considine has since doubled its partner group and evolved its tech, the core approach remains remarkably consistent. “A lot of our systems have stayed the same. Tried and true,” Marvin said, with a smile.

Today, he leads a hybrid department that supports small businesses and professional services clients—many in real estate, construction, restaurants, and consulting. “A lot of my clients are growing their wealth through real estate,” he explained. “It’s a blend of personal and business strategy.”

It’s also a reflection of the trust he’s built over time.

Leading with Intention

By the time Marvin joined the partner group, he had already spent years listening closely to what mattered most—especially to the staff and younger managers coming up behind him. That awareness continues to shape how he leads.

“Having been here for a while, I’ve really tried to bring in the voice of staff and younger managers. I remember what it was like before I was a partner.”

He’s also intentional about building community beyond the day-to-day. Whether it’s team lunches, a trip to SeaWorld, or a night out with spouses, Marvin creates space for people to connect—not just as coworkers, but as human beings.

“Getting to know people as people is really important. When you connect personally, it strengthens the working relationship too.”

Supporting Growth from Within

Marvin’s approach to mentorship is straightforward: set the tone, create space, and stay accessible. As co-leader of the firm’s education programs, he helps guide both internal and external learning while keeping communication front and center.

“There’s no such thing as a dumb question,” he said. “We set expectations, lead by example, and create space in our weekly meetings for open dialogue—what’s working, what isn’t, and what we can change.”

Before becoming a partner, Marvin led campus recruitment across San Diego. That experience shaped how he shows up for staff today—with a focus on listening, encouragement, and shared ownership.

“I always remember what it felt like to be on the other side of the table. I try to make sure our staff feel seen, supported, and encouraged to shape the department alongside me.”

Industry Trends & Forward Focus

Marvin is equally attuned to what’s happening outside the firm. Shifting tax laws, AI, and rising operational costs are all shaping the accounting field—and he’s committed to staying ahead of the curve.

He’s also thinking about long-term efficiency. While some firms chase growth at the cost of relationships, Marvin believes the future lies in smart, sustainable scaling.

“We’re always looking for ways to make ourselves more efficient without sacrificing quality or service. That’s how we grow.”

Beyond the Numbers

Outside of work, Marvin stays grounded through family, coaching, and community involvement. He serves on multiple boards and stays active in youth sports, often bringing the same lessons from the field into the workplace.

One guiding principle has stayed with him since day one—a piece of advice from Considine & Considine’s founder Tim Considine.

“My very first day in 1994, Tim looked at me and said, ‘Always remember to have fun.’ That stuck with me. Years later, when he was in hospice, I told him how much that meant. It’s something I carry into every meeting—and every part of my life.”

Marvin now starts each team meeting with a rotating “thought of the week.” The very first one? Have fun!

“If you’re not having fun, what’s the point?”

Looking Ahead

Marvin’s leadership speaks through presence, not volume. Steady, grounded, and relational—he brings a rare blend of consistency and care to everything he touches.

His 2021 promotion to Partner reflects more than tenure. It affirms the trust he’s built, the voice he offers, and the culture he continues to shape.

We’re proud to celebrate his journey—and grateful for the future he’s helping lead.
